Our Intertwining Tale, chapter five: My Weapon
Here; it was one word he spoke to me before handing me that strange thing. And now, here I am, sitting in my bedroom with a crystal rose in my fist.
–
It had made me breathless. He stared deeper into my eyes, as if he could tell everything that I was thinking. But he only held out his hands, showing me the strange rose. He pressed it into my hands, hugged me and told me to leave immediately. When I fled from the room, Aria was hiding behind a corner, waiting for me to show up.
When I got up to her, she walked in front of me. “What were you two doing in there? Is there something between you two? Did he tell you something that no one can know? What is that in your hands?” She continually began to ask questions. She continued to press her books closer to her chest and flip her silvery hair back.
She was always beautiful. Not like me. I was slightly rounder at the face, slightly rounder at the waist and thighs. My hair was messy and blonde, always shoulder length. My dim blue eyes were lifeless and tired.
Finally, she asked, “Do you have a crush on Nolan?” And that immediately set me off. I had grabbed her by the throat. She may be beautiful, but she has a way with words. She never knows what not to say and when not to say it.
Trying her best to breathe, she kicked me off and ran away, thinking I had betrayed our friendship. We never had one.
“Cassie, what-” Jason had ran up to me, putting his hand on my shoulder and throwing me in his view. I pushed him out of the way, but his balance stopped him from falling over. He grabbed my second shoulder, gripping hard with his fingertips. I struggled in pain, but nothing I could do stopped him.
“Let go of me, Jason!” I yelled out, and he immediately let his grasp loose. Before he could put his hands at his sides, I grabbed his wrists with my hands, holding his close to one another. “Jason, don’t let Aria manipulate you.”
His face with filled with hurt. It was scrunched and teary, like I had just punched him in the face. He had a crush on Aria, and to get him to lean to her side, she had to make him comfort her. Jason was trapped. He had no choices. His emotions were getting in the way of his common sense.
“What? What?” He finally looked angry, gently pushing my hands off his wrists and putting them to my side, “Manipulate me? You’re worried about me?” He began to laugh obnoxiously, tears dripping down his cheeks. That set me off again.
“You think this is funny? Jason, it’s not my fault she had to be annoying!” Bad idea…
He stopped laughing the second I said those words. He stood upright, his arms crossed and his eyes staring at me in anger. His dark blue eyed glare shot through me. He began to search my face.
“Cassie, I think you might need to leave.” He said it calmly. I could just feel the anger in the air. He tried his best to keep his words collect. “Aria is-“ I didn’t let him finish. I distracted him immediately.
“Look at this.” With my words of command, he stared down at my palms. The silvery metallic rose was in my hands. It was large, long enough for the polished petals to be on the ends of my fingertips. Minute mithril edged the points and followed the line around the rose. He stared at them with astonishment, nodding towards them.
“What…” He glanced at me quickly, his entire body looking more curious than angry, “What is it?”
I grinned. Finally, old Jason back. “Well, it’s some type of metal rose. I wonder what it’s for.” I looked down at it with him, turning it remarkably in his view. He put his hand out to touch it.
“It’s a weapon.”
“What?” I gaped at him. What is he talking about? This beautiful thing is a weapon?
“Yes, yes I know. It sounds absurd.” Jason chuckled under his breath, pushing the rose against my stomach, “But it’s true. I have a weapon as well.”
I quickly hid the rose back into the brown bag that Nolan had placed it in. Maria walked up to us, her black sleek outfit sticking to her skin. I shuddered in disgust behind her back.
“What are you two doing? Go to your corridors!” She yelled, nodding towards us with her pistol clamped to her waist. I scurried off. I didn’t need to start trouble on my first day of my training.
–
So here I lay, on my bed, the strange rose in my lap. Probably my fate lies there, too.
